During the summer, we love to spend our weekends in the sun with friends. Usually the schedule is packed with pool parties, BBQs or lazy Sunday brunches – yummy food, good company and amazing weather, what’s not to love? However, regular get-togethers can get pretty pricey if you’re like us and don’t want to show up empty-handed. So today, we have a fun litte DIY prepared for you guys, that is not only easy to make, but also very budget friendly!
Like many others, we’re currently quite smitten with the whole ombré trend and decided to give a regular piece of serving cutlery a quick & easy make-over to make it a more personal gift. Here is what you’ll need:
– simple wooden serving cutlery (we only paid 6,50€ for ours)
– white “indoor” paint for wood
– a color of your choice, also “indoor” paint for wood (maybe go for the hostess’ favorite color?!)
– a small (approx. 1-2cm wide) paint brush
– masking tape
– plastic cups or plates (for mixing the paint)
– an old can or glass to hold the cutlery while the paint dries
Prep you’re cutlery by adding a strip of masking tape right about where the handle would end. Then paint the whole handle a basecoat of white. In the plastic cups, start mixing the paint, adding different amounts of white and the color of your choice to make about 3-4 different shades, creating an ombré effect. Next, paint the handle of the wooden cutlery, always moving the tape back a bit and going for one shade darker. Repeat as often as desired, but be sure to let each layer dry well before adding the masking tape for the next.
For the finishing touch, add a cute, handwritten note for the hostess with the mostess and a pretty bow. This also makes for a great “little something extra” when you’re simply asked to bring a salad or side dish.
