We’re super excited to present our first guest contributor, Hannah of Provinzkindchen to you. We’ve been drooling over her recipes and beautiful images on the blog for a long time, and she was nice enough to whip up a little something for The Daily Dose. Hannah also lives by the principle of “easy but amazing”, so teaming up with her was a match made in heaven. For today’s recipe, she made a fluffy fig breakfast cake adapted from Joy the Baker, that includes everything you need for the perfect cozy breakfast during fall. Figs happen to be amongst our favorite fruits, so this is a definite jackpot! What are you waiting for? Make a run for the kitchen and start baking!
What you’ll need:
– 300g flour
– 1 package baking powder
– 115g brown sugar
– 2 eggs
– 350ml buttermilk
– 50g melted butter
– 1 package vanilla sugar
– ca. 8 figs (sliced or in halves)
– almond slivers
– confectioner’s sugar
Mix the flour, baking powder and brown sugar in a small bowl. Then, in a separate bowl, mix the eggs, buttermilk, melted butter and vanilla sugar well. Coat the cake-pan with butter and flour, pre-heat the oven to 190°C. Next, mix your dry and moist ingredients together until you have a smooth consistency. Then pour the batter into your cake-pan and lightly press the sliced figs into the batter and sprinkle the entire cake with almond slivers. Dust with confectioner’s sugar and bake for about 25 minutes at 190°C. Best if enjoyed right out of the oven for a late breakfast or weekend brunch.
A big thanks to Hannah for the delicious recipe and gorgeous photos! If you give this cake a try, be sure to use the hashtag #tddrecipe on Instagram to show us how it turned out.

Oh now THAT looks amazing! I will definitely give it a try.. But is it convenient also for dessert? Sounds very sweet to me (and cake for breakfast..I am more the eggs and bacon kind of “breakfaster” ;))
Hi Isabel,
sure, it would work great as dessert! Simply serve it with some vanilla ice cream or whipped cream :)
