We hope you all had the most wonderful Christmas with your loved ones and are enjoying a few days of nothing but pure relaxation! We’re in full-on holiday mode and plan on spending lots of time cuddled-up on the sofa, reading a good book, and of course enjoying as much hot chocolate as possible. We’ve taken on the challenge of perfecting our favorite warm winter drink and have come up with 3 different, super easy recipes for amazing hot chocolate to enjoy on Christmas Day (or any other day for that matter). We hope you love these as much as we do!
For all 3 recipes, start by preparing a basic hot chocolate. In a small pot, heat up some milk and stir in basic cocoa powder and brown sugar. We used Bensdorp cocoa (which is unsweetened) and a ratio of 1:1 for the cocoa and sugar. Stir frequently and make sure the milk doesn’t start boiling.
“Peppermint Chocolate”
For this version of the hot chocolate, crush some peppermint candy canes. In a cup prepare the hot chocolate with some whipped cream and then top with the crushed candy cane. If you want a little more peppermint flavor, you can also add some peppermint syrup to the hot chocolate mixture or fresh leaves of mint.
“Hot Chocolate With Chili & Cinnamon”
This one is for all the exotic readers out there (and was actually our favorite)! In the pot with your hot chocolate, add a few chili strings and a pinch of cinnamon. Keep on low heat for about 10 minutes, stirring frequently, so the hot chocolate can take on some of the chili and the cinnamon can dissolve. Serve with whipped cream and top with chili strings and fresh cinnamon.
“Marshmallow-Coconut-Dream”
Good thing calorie counting is not an option during the holidays, because this cup of goodness would require at least 3 gym sessions to break even. In the hot chocolate mixture, add about 1 big tbsp of coconut flakes. Then, in a cup top the hot chocolate with whipped cream, add some marshmallows and additional shredded coconut. And don’t say we didn’t warn you if you gain a pound or so …
What is your favorite way to enjoy hot chocolate? Do you prefer the classic version or are you going to try one of our options?
