Nothing screams summer like sand in our hair and golden sun-kissed skin. We love a good tan just as much as the next girl, BUT we also want wrinkle- and cancer-free skin when we get older. So, we thought it was about time to talk about some of our favorite products for (safe!) sun-kissed skin.
At the beginning of the season, we like to start out with an SPF 30. As far as our experience goes, we’ve never gotten a sunburn when using SPF 30 and re-applying regularly. If you plan on traveling to a place near the Equator (ie. The Maldives) we suggest lathering up as often as every 15 minutes. The sun down there is incredibly intense and especially if you’re snorkeling or in the water you need to watch your back – literally! For the higher SPFs, our favorite products this summer are Nivea’s “Pure & Sensitive Sun Lotion + Aloe Vera“, which can be found in most drug stores for around 10€, as well as the “Ultra Protect Sunscreen Lotion” by Banana Boat for around 12€. We adore the Banana Boat products for their great, hydrating consistency, as well as the amazing smell, however, they’re a bit difficult to come by if you live in Europe. We suggest you try Amazon or a specialty pharmacy for these products.
Once you’ve spent a few days in the sun and already have a nice base color, you are probably safe to move down to a lower SPF. We don’t necessarily suggest anything below a SPF 8, as it is simply too little protection. The “Tanning Sunscreen Lotion SPF 8” by Hawaiian Tropic has proven to work amazingly over the past 2 summers. We use it regularly and haven’t gotten burnt yet. Surprisingly, it also works great for fair skin, or people with freckles. As far as the “Dark Tanning Oil” goes, we recommend only using it in combination with a sunscreen base, and maybe just for the legs, since it comes with no SPF at all. Hawaiian Tropic products also have that delicious coconut smell and can be found at some drug stores (ie. Bipa), as well as select beauty/cosmetic shops (ie. Douglas).
For the face, we always like to be a little extra careful and stick with the highest possible protection, year-round! A great sunscreen, which also works for sensitive skin is the “HelioSoin SPF 50” by Maria Galland, which can be purchased at select cometic stores or online for around 32€. It is pretty expensive, but hey, it’s our face we’re talking about here! Plus, a little drop will go a long way. Another option we love is the “Actively Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream” by Kiehl’s for 29€. It gives you a beautifully even complexion (comes in 3 different shades), while protecting your skin at the same time. This is a definite editor’s favorite and has kept our nose from getting burnt on the last vacation!
Taking care of your skin doesn’t stop once you’re out of the sun. A day in the blistering heat can be exhausting for our dermis and it is important to re-hydrate afterwards. Drinking lots of water is always a good idea to keep your skin hydrated and balanced – but also be sure to treat it with a moisturizer. We love Origin’s “GinZing Energy Boosting Moisturizer” (25€) for our face because with the hydro base it cools and refreshes instantly. For the rest of the body, your favorite lotion or moisturizer will usually be enough after stepping out of the shower – but incase you did get a tiny bit burnt we suggest Nivea’s “Aprés-Spray” (available for around 10€ at most drug stores), which definitely helps against any peeling that may occur within the next few days.
We’d love to know: What are your favorite products for sun-kissed skin? Are there any tips or tricks we should know about?

Hallo!
Was auch noch gut ist:
GARNIER Ambre Solaire Golden Protect (LSF 10/20/30)
@Kristina
LG, Maren
Thanks for the tips ladies!

Ich liebe auch das Fast Tanning Oil von Piz Buin.

P.S.: Richtig schöner Blog, gratuliere euch! :)
Hawaiian Tropic is for sure (in my opinion) one of the best sun-care brands on the market, anyway, for the face I’m currently using a light foundation with a medium SPF.
The BB-cream from Kiehl’s sounds very interesting as well as the gel from La Roche Posay, someone mentioned above. :-)
