Appropriate business looks are always a bit of a challenge (at least to us). On hot summer days, we don’t want to melt away, but we also don’t want to show too much skin, and once it gets colder, we don’t want to show up for meetings with our warm and sturdy biker boots. Of course, there are jobs (or days) when biker boots are totally appropriate, but when you’re looking for a dressier office style, things will quickly get a bit more complicated. For this week’s fashion feature, we’ve both taken a simple, but meeting-appropriate dress, and paired it with our favorite coats for fall.
If your bound to dress-codes at work, we would recommend sticking to a neutral color palette and timeless pieces. Beige, gray, black and navy blue are safe colors to go with. To make the look your own, try to pick a modern take of a classic, is. Kathi’s coat has an elegant cut and the color is definitely appropriate, but the little studs along the sleeves make it feel more her age, without standing out too much.
What Kathi wore: H&M dress, Zara coat, Chatelles loafers, Stella McCartney bag
For those of you working in a more laid-back surrounding, patterns and prints can be a fun way to “pimp” your classy office attire. If you’re wearing a simple black dress, go for a touch of leopard, an unexpected pop of color, like red or light pink, and add some statement jewelry. It’s all about the right balance, so try to pick out one key-piece and keep the rest more subtle.
What Vicky wore: Zara dress, necklace & coat, Alexander McQueen bag, Cocolabelle slippers
