When we plan on having friends over for dinner, we always love to create something that’s a little more special than just simple plates and cutlery. It doesn’t have to be fancy, but it’s nice to show your friends your appreciation by going that extra mile and putting some effort into the decoration for the dinner table. This week, we created an amazing, no-fuss moroccan style dinner (recipes coming up tomorrow, you’re going to love this one!!) and tried to create a quick tablescape to fit the theme with the things we found around our home. We were surprised by how easy the right atmosphere was created by simply combining the right things with each other; even though they had no oriental flair at all on their own.
Aside from the things you have at home, try to think outside the box – what stands for the region that you want to represent? Is it a certain fabric? Colors? Fruits? Flavors?
We started looking around our space and came up with the following:
Hues of blue, green and red; linen fabric and wooden plates for the rustic feeling; ornated coasters and colorful napkins; figs and candles. In addition, we just put the ingredients of some of the dishes as well as the dessert on the table as decoration – why not work with the things you’re going to eat anyways? In our case,it were the figs, dessert, some limes, as well as the side dishes. Of course, you could also well sprinkle some spices on the table or work with a really colorful tablecloth – it’s really up to you and your imagination. Finally, just light up a lot of candles and voilá – there you have your perfect oriental table that didn’t cost you a dime.
