Travel Guide: 24 Hours In Belgrade

Wir können zwar nicht genau sagen, was wir uns von Belgrad erwartet haben, aber so viel steht fest: die (positive) Überraschung ist definitiv gelungen. Den ersten Vorgeschmack auf die serbische Hauptstadt haben wir durch den Gastbeitrag von Sara Plavic bekommen – könnt ihr euch an den (Sweet) Belgrad Travel Guide erinnern? So weit, so gut – doch dass wir es so schnell danach selbst hin schaffen würden, hätten wir nicht gedacht. Aber sag niemals nie, und so sind wir letzten Donnerstag für ein Press Event von H&M zum Launch der #HMConsciousExclusiveCollection nach Belgrad geflogen. Obwohl wir nur für 24 Stunden angereist sind, haben wir doch einiges mitnehmen können und zeigen euch heute, was wir erlebt haben und empfehlen können, falls es auch euch bald nach Belgrad verschlägt.

Gewohnt haben wir im brandneuen Mama Shelter Hotel, das direkt an der Fußgängerzone in einer Einkaufsstraße liegt. Das Hotel hat erst kürzlich eröffnet und ist jetzt schon ein absoluter Hotspot – dank der super stylishen, großen Dachterrasse mit Traumblick über die Stadt. Wir hatten auch ein Lunch auf der Terrasse und können euch die Poke Bowls sehr ans Herz legen. Durch die südliche Lage waren die Temperaturen richtig sommerlich und so konnten wir problemlos im Schatten mit einer leichten Brise unser Lunch genießen. Wenn da mal nicht Urlaubsstimmung aufkommt!

Zdravo Beograd

Den ersten Nachmittag haben wir mit einem Bummel durch die Fußgängerzone und dem H&M Event verbracht. Mehr zur Kollektion und dem Gedanken dahinter verraten wir euch übrigens im morgigen Post (hallo, Editor’s Pick!). Zum Event sind wir zu Fuß gegangen und konnten so ein paar coole Viertel erkunden. Zum Beispiel die älteste Straße in Belgrad, Skadarlija, die gesäumt ist von coolen Cafés und Restaurants – hier pulsiert das Leben! In derselben Gegend sind wir zufällig in einen super coolen Porzellanladen gestolpert und waren fasziniert von dem wunderschönen Geschirr. Die gute Dame hat auch einen Online Shop – einfach mal reinschauen: Boya Porcelain. Den Abend haben wir anschließend im Restaurant Sakura zusammen mit dem Team von H&M, der Editor in Chief der Elle Serbia und anderen Persönlichkeiten der Medienszene verbracht – tolle Sitznachbarn, oder? Das Sakura ist eines der vielen Restaurants der “Beton Hala”, einem ehemaligen Industriezentrum direkt am Ufer der Save. Hier säumen sich Restaurants und Bars, die ebensogut in New York sein könnten – generell hat Belgrad eine kulinarische Vielfalt, von der wir in Wien nur träumen können. Selbstredend, dass das Essen im Sakura ausgezeichnet war.

Am zweiten Tag hatten wir nur noch kurz Zeit und sind einigen von euren Tips gefolgt und haben das Viertel rund um Kosančićev Venac, ein super cooles Viertel, verbracht. Hier findet man süße Cafés, einige davon findet ihr auch in unserem anderen Belgrad Travel Guide – zum Beispiel das Supermarket Deli. Weiter unten in der Gegend hat man übrigens auch eine super Aussicht über den Fluss und andere Stadtteile. Zum Mittagessen waren wir im Manufaktura, einem Restaurant direkt um’s Eck von unserem Hotel mit super Küche – Balkan Style. Danach ging es auch schon wieder zurück zum Flughafen, der zum Glück nur 25 Minuten entfernt vom Zentrum der Stadt liegt. Wir können Belgrad definitiv empfehlen, vor allem für einen kulinarischen Trip – es liegt nur 60 Flugminuten entfernt von Wien, hat einige Highlights zu bieten, die Menschen sind extrem freundlich und die Restaurantszene kann mit internationalen Standards mithalten. We like – und hoffentlich war es nicht unser letzter Besuch in Belgrad.

EN: We can’t say exactly what we expected from Belgrade, but that much is certain: the (positive) surprise has definitely succeeded. We got the first foretaste of the Serbian capital through the guest contribution of Sara Plavic – do you remember our (Sweet) Belgrade Travel Guide? So far, so good – but we would not have thought that we would make it there ourselves so quickly. But never say never, and so we flew to Belgrade last Thursday for a H&M press event for the launch of the #HMConsciousExclusiveCollection. Although we were only there for 24 hours, we were able to take some impressions with us and show you what we have experienced and can recommend for Belgrade. We stayed at the brand-new Mama Shelter Hotel, which is located directly at the pedestrian zone in a shopping street. The hotel has only recently opened and is already an absolute hotspot – thanks to the super stylish, large roof terrace with a fantastic view over the city. We also had a lunch on the terrace and can recommend the Poke Bowls. Due to the southern location the temperatures were really summery and so we could enjoy our lunch in the shade with a light breeze without any problems. 

We spent the first afternoon strolling through the pedestrian zone and at the H&M event. We’ll tell you more about the collection and the idea behind it in tomorrow’s post (hello, Editor’s Pick!). We walked to the event and were able to explore some cool areas. For example, the oldest street in Belgrade, Skadarlija, which is lined with cool cafés and restaurants – life pulsates here! In the same area we happened to stumble into a super cool china shop and were fascinated by the beautiful dishes. The lady also has an online shop – just have a look: Boya Porcelain. Afterwards we spent the evening at restaurant Sakura together with the team of H&M, the editor in Chief of Elle Serbia and other personalities of the media scene – great seating neighbours, right? Sakura is one of the many restaurants of the “Beton Hala”, a former industrial centre on the banks of the Sava. Here you will find restaurants and bars that could just as well be located in New York – in general Belgrade has a culinary variety we can only dream of in Vienna. Of course, the food at Sakura was also excellent. 

On the second day we had only a short amount of time left and followed some of your tips and strolled around the quarter around Kosančićev Venac, a super cool neighborhood. Here you will find cute cafés, some of which you will also find in our other Belgrade Travel Guide – for example the Supermarket Deli. Further down in the area you also have a great view over the river and other parts of town. For lunch we went to the Manufaktura, a restaurant right around the corner from our hotel with great cuisine – Balkan style. Afterwards we went back to the airport, which fortunately is only 25 minutes away from the city centre. We can definitely recommend Belgrade, especially for a culinary trip – it is only 60 minutes by plane from Vienna, has some highlights to offer, the people are extremely friendly and the restaurant scene can keep up with international standards. We like – and hopefully it wasn’t our last visit to Belgrade.
