Hosting a Halloween party can be so much fun, but like every event, it needs some highlights and a certain schedule to be remembered for longer than a week. Usually, we’re all for the spontaneous, informal gathering, but why not plan ahead this time and include a few fun activity for your guests? We promise, it’ll be just as much fun as our girls night reloaded, but with a spooky twist – ready to get scared?
1) Whodunit?
Whodunit is a popular role game for parties and can be oh so much fun if you plan it ahead a little – don’t try to be spontaneous on this one, it’s going to turn out a mess. It’s a classic mystery game that has guests play in various roles and competing against each other to solve the crime, using tips and hints to find the murder. You can make up a story of your own, but there are also numerous websites out there where you can download entire crime stories for different themes for free. If you’re no big fan of walking around and having too much action in your home, you can also create a themed dinner, where your guests have to solve the riddle over the different courses – it’s just as much fun!
2) Trick-Or-Treat Goodie Bags
Prepare little goodie bags for your friends filled with a lot of cute stuff like candy, small champagne bottles or party gadgets that can be used and shared for party fun later on. Only give the bags to them if they ring and announce themselves with the typical “Trick-Or-Treat” saying – if you want, you can make two different types of packages and decide who gets the treat or the trick bag!
3) Horror Story Telling
Ask your friends to think of a really good horror story in advance. At midnight, turn off the lights, light up some candles and let everyone tell their story – if you have some talented story tellers among your group of friends, this will be the guaranteed highlight of your halloween night. For the extra fear factor, make it a rule that they have to build up their stories around your hometown and with relatable characters – it will make it so much more scary!
4) Pumpkin Contest
Why not host a pumpkin carving party like the ladies of we love handmade did? Prepare little craft packages for everyone, buy some pumpkins and carve the night away! When you’re all done, you can have a contest who made the prettiest pumpkin or you can put some candles inside and enjoy the cozy, spooky atmosphere together over a glass of our hot “Cinnamon Toast“.
5) Table Tilting
This famous party (or seance) game is only for the hard-bitten and is supposed to be a way of communication with the spirits. The sitters are placed around a table, sitting with their fingertips placed lightly on the top edges of the table. One of the sitters acts as a spokesperson and calls out for any spirits in the room to come forward and make contact. Then, a question would be asked of the spirits, who would rattle the table in response. Another form of this game is that the alphabet is written on different cards on the table and the spirits answer the questions by moving the glass to the letters in order to form a word and answer the questions. If you’re daring enough to try it out, the instructions can be found here.
