Etsy Picks Of The Week: Pillow Play

Decorating, and re-decorating our homes is one of our favorite hobbies. But since our bank accounts (and boyfriends) won’t tolerate new furniture every 6 months, we have to come up with other ways of sprucing up our place every now and then. One of of favorite options are accessories, which add a bit of color and texture to allow you to easily create a new look without spending too much. Pillows are the perfect little helper when it comes to adding some pattern to the plain quilt on your bed, or a pop of color for the simple gray sofa in your living room. That’s why this week’s Etsy finds are all about mix & matching cute pillows.

A monochrome basic color is always a good idea to start with when you’re trying to create a “mix & match” look for your sofa and bed. Try to think of a color scheme you want to go for and then buy 2 monochrome pillows in one of those colors. We love this bright orange to start out with! Having 2 pillows, one on each side brings, balance into the whole look.

Once you’ve choosen your monochrome pillows, pick 2 patterned accent pillows that reflect the color scheme you envisioned. Again, go for 2 pillows to create a more balanced look – this is important when you’re mixing pillows, otherwise it may get a little too wild if you only have one of each. We love that this pink pillow has a bit of orange for a more complete look with the monochrome pillows.

While the patterned accent pillows usually have a very even pattern, a flower print can be a nice contrast and won’t clash as easily. When choosing a flowery pattern, make sure to incorporate at least one or 2 colors from the other pillows, otherwise it may look out of place. We found the perfect flower pillow in hues of pink and with some orange to go with the other 2 pillows we picked.

For a fun eye-catcher in the center of your sofa or bed, go for a bold wordy statement, like the “we should probably cuddle now” pillow that we think is super cute! It can also be a great ice breaker for first dates – simply use the pillow to get the message across to the other person!
