OUAI means yes, in that casual, Parisian way. It’s about saying yes to real hair for real life. And looking chic, no matter how many followers you have.
No glam squad needed.
Was haben wir also bestellt?

EN: To be honest, it would never have occurred to us to write an exclusive article about the hair products of The OUAI if there hadn’t been various reader requests. Of course, we like to talk and write about our beauty favourites, products we love and novelties, but always try to include as many different brands and products as possible. After we were asked several times if we could share our experiences with The OUAI products [pronounced: way] with you, we thought: Why not? We have been using various Jen Atkins hair products for about 3 months now and most of the bottles are already half empty – so it is save to say that we made it through the test phase. About time for that OUAI review…
“OUAI means yes, in that casual, Parisian way. It’s about saying yes to real hair for real life. And looking chic, no matter how many followers you have.”
Sounds good, right? We discovered the products on Instagram (duh!) and immediately fell in love with packaging and the image of the brand. Reason enough for us to say oui to The OUAI. Of course, the fact that the founder, Jen Atkins, is a well known and highly acclaimed hair stylist from Hollywood, whom Kim K. trusts also helps. And if all else fails, her 1.9 million followers speak for themselves. The idea behind the brand? Products that keep their promises and are modern, luxurious but also approachable. True to the motto: #HAIRGOALS. No glam squad needed.
So what did we order? With too many choices comes the agony and that’s why Kathi ordered half the assortment. Or something like that. Her choices include the Volume Shampoo, the Repair Conditioner, the Texturizing Hair Spray, the Memory Mist as well as Dry Shampoo and Wave Spray. Vicky’s choice were both the Repair Shampoo + Conditioner and also the Dry Shampoo.
So, how did (and do) we like the products? In a nutshell: Great! But of course not all the products are a holy grail and not all of them convinced us 100%, that’s why here comes an overview and our personal The OUAI review:
- Each product has its own smell, even if the products from the same series (e.g. Repair) they smell differently. All of us have so far agreed.
- Both shampoos + the Repair Conditioner are super and not only make the hair velvety soft but also make it shine incredibly beautiful. As little as right after the hairdresser. The only disadvantage: We noticed that we have to wash the hair about 1 day earlier than usual (although we even leave out the hair oil) and Vicky’s scalp sometimes tickles a little, which was never the case with other products (e.g. Aveda or Kerastase). Whether this is due to the OUAI products or simply the dry heating air of recent months, however, we cannot say 100%.
- You can save yourself the dry shampoo. It’s not bad, but it didn’t knock us both out. It was also not noticeably better than other dry shampoos in terms of application, only the smell is more pleasant. Vicky doesn’t use much dry shampoo and Kathi swears by The Drybar from NYC. However, we would like to give the “Dry Shampoo Foam” from The OUAI another chance, because it gets honey all the time in reviews.
- The Memory Mist is a product that can be extensively praised. A heat protection for the hair, which fixes the styling directly when blow-drying and you can enjoy shiny straight hair or flowing curls until the next wash.
- Bestsellers? Besides the Memory Mist, there are a few other products that are considered “it-pieces” by Mrs. Atkins. Among them are the Thinning Hair Supplement, which supposedly really works, and the Dry Shampoo Foam.
- What’s next on our shopping list? The Leave In Conditioner (Vicky) and the Volume Spray (Kathi).
- Where can you buy OUAI products in Germany and Austria? At Niche-Beauty (= biggest selection), Net-A-Porter and ASOS.

Alles Liebe, Anna
